It is always galling to be passed up for a position that you are highly qualified for to a man half your age! I also believe from talking to my fellow coworkers about hourly pay, something that is highly frowned upon, that the men make more money than the women in the same position. It is one standard raise for each position. There are no longer performance reviews or merit raises.
I am also one of the least rewarded and hardest ridden. I am one of the hardest working employees in the store. I am now 52 years old and only made to $12.87 an hour. Less people on the floor makes crabby customers and around and around it goes. They are using hours from each of the departments during their training period which means less employees on the floor and more work for the permanent employees. This also makes it hard on the permanent employees. They spend half of that time in training. They know that they are only going to be hired for about 90 days so they don't try very hard. The seasonal people that are constantly going in and out of the revolving door are another story.
Most of my coworkers that are permanent are very hardworking. Makes customers frustrated and they take it out on the hard working employees who are overworked. Show up and you have a job.Īs in most retail jobs, they are always understaffed.
